IS FORGIVENESS POSSIBLE?

Is forgiveness possible when the one we love has been unfaithful? I have heard many women say, “I am very close to God but I just can’t forgive my husband.”

One of the most God-like characteristics there is, is forgiveness. True forgiveness flows from the heart that understands how much it has been forgiven. If you find it difficult to forgive go back to the beginning and recount all the mercy you have received. I remember after about the 15th time my husband Steve fell into sin, I wanted to kill him! But the thing that always sprung up in my heart after one of his “confessions” was the understanding that I was a sinner too, that I had committed crimes against a holy God and all I wanted from Him was compassion. How could I then refuse to give out what had been given to me? You’re probably thinking, “Okay that sounds nice but how do I forgive?” It really just boils down to what you want. Do you want to protect your interest or do you want the Spirit of Jesus Christ ruling inside? You really can’t have both. Protecting self is opposite of the example that Jesus gave. Jesus Himself asked the Father to forgive those who crucified Him – it was His will to do so. This whole issue is a matter of the will, so where is your will at?
