Counseling Ministry

There are many factors involved with overcoming sexual addiction.  A person who has been compulsive in his sexual behavior without having to answer to anyone finds quitting very difficult.  However, it is almost impossible for a man to be involved with pornography and sexual activity while at Pure Life Ministries (PLM).  This serves as a significant help for those seeking to break the deeply ingrained habits of sexual addiction.

Separation

Another important element of the program is that the participant will, for perhaps the first time in his life, be able to live in a godly atmosphere away from the influences of the world.  The spirit of the world makes it easy for a person to become addicted to sex and difficult to overcome it.  The Live-In Program will act as a buffer to the world, filtering out ungodly influences.  Making the move to Kentucky will prove to be a major help in itself, breaking old, harmful relationships and leaving the area of so many past defeats.  Also, pornography is just not readily available in our area.

Discipline

Men who are in sexual addiction have a lack of self-control. For the most part, the man living in sexual sin has gratified his every desire. Going through this program will be a period of readjustment as he learns to lay aside his self-centered pursuit of pleasure for a life of true Christianity. Each participant will be required to attend meetings, have daily devotions, do homework, and for the most part, live unselfishly.  From the outset he will be expected to do what the Lord requires of him in light of Scripture. As this discipline is worked into his life, he will find a strength of character developing within him which will help him to deny temptations in the future.

Counseling

This program offers weekly sessions of meaningful, biblical counseling. Our counselors are trained biblical counselors who have all graduated from the Live-In Program and now walk in victory over sexual sin. The authority each counselor has with his men comes from the testimony he has of having overcome sexual addiction in his own life and from the level of consecration he is living with God.  Staff members of PLM typically spend two to three hours a day seeking the Lord.  Not only are they spending much of this time praying for their men, but they have learned how to hear from God about important issues in their counselee's lives.

Spiritual Atmosphere

There is a godly atmosphere at the PLM campus which creates a hunger to know the Lord in a deeper way.  Spending time with the Lord every morning and being involved in church services, where there is a strong sense of the presence of God, helps the man find the real repentance that destroys the love of sin.
 
What men receive at Pure Life Ministries are not the tired answers found in psychology books, nor the exaggerated hype which appeals to the emotions, nor the easy solutions which never produce real change;  it is an encounter with the Living God which brings about the transformation from the inside out.   

Practical Aspects

The Live-in Program participants hold outside employment while in the program.  Breakfast and dinner are provided for them on week days. The daily schedule is very busy.  Worship services are held on Sunday morning, and Mercy Studies class is held on Sunday evening. Weekly counseling sessions take place Monday through Friday.  Student Accountability/Group night is held every Tuesday evening. There is also a worship service on Thursday evening, and Friday evening the men watch preaching/teaching videos from various godly speakers.  A one-hour intercessory prayer meeting is held at noon on Saturday morning in the chapel.  Christian movies are shown on Saturday night.
