From a Life in Bondage to a Life of Blessing

Although I had grown up in a Christian home and graduated from Bible college, I found myself in bondage to sexual sin and knew something was terribly wrong. I spent countless hours with Christian counselors, tried accountability groups, read several Christian self-help books, and by the age of twenty-nine, I thought I had tried everything. I was like a freight train that couldn't be stopped. As I looked back on a long history of sexual sin and failed attempts to look like the Christian man my parents and others expected me to be, I felt hopeless and wanted to die. I believed Hell was too good for me, yet still I would not give my life in total surrender to the Lord. But that was about to change.

On September 2, 2002, I arrived at Pure Life Ministries feeling lonely, full of fear, and yet still desiring to live for myself. But the Lord began to open my eyes to the horrifying reality of my sin - and then, to the stunning reality of Jesus. This was completely new for me.

This laid the foundation for the rest of what God would do while I was in the Residential Program. I began to see that although I had some knowledge of the Bible, I hadn't been living it. My life had not been led by the Spirit. Now God was giving me a chance to be discipled. By the example of other godly men, and through the other aspects of the program, I learned how to surrender my life and walk in the Spirit one step at a time.

My life with God after the Residential Program has led me to unexpected places. I now have a lovely wife, two wonderful children, and we are serving as full-time missionaries in the Philippines. Our work here involves helping to establish the national Teen Challenge program so other people in bondage might find freedom to walk with the Lord. We are living out the mercy that was abundantly shared with me when I went to Pure Life Ministries and found Jesus. To God be the glory, great things He has done, is doing, and wants to do in the days to come!
