Giving to Those in Need as We Celebrate God's Merciful Gift

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! I hope that you had a blessed and happy Thanksgiving holiday. I trust that as you celebrate the upcoming holidays, you are able to push through all the worldly noise and focus on our wonderful Savior. Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!

I’m writing to tell you about our Scholarship Fund which exists solely to subsidize students in financial need. This fund has been in place over the years and we have had many opportunities to use it.

For instance, international students come to us from many countries around the world on six-month visas. In recent years we’ve had men from Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, Belgium, Holland and Colombia. These students are not allowed to work off campus, so their fees are covered by the Scholarship Fund. Some of them are able to pay for part or even all of their program fees but most simply don’t have the funds available.

Another group of students that occasionally need help are the elderly. Some are able to pay their way, but others must receive help to cover their fees. I do not have the words to describe the joy of seeing an elderly man’s relationship with God restored while there is still time.

Earlier this year we had a student who told us he needed to withdraw from the program because finances he had counted on didn’t come through. He just couldn’t afford to stay. After investigating his situation, we decided to use the Scholarship Fund to cover the shortfall in his fees. Not long afterwards, he had a real spiritual breakthrough. I’m so glad he got to stay!

Another group who often need financial assistance are the wives of our students. We believe strongly that the wife of every married student should be able to enjoy the benefits of our Wives Program. It is vital to the health of that marriage that she too receives help while her husband is with us. The very fact that he is here for nine months often puts a real strain on the family finances. Many wives can only enroll in the program if their fees are supplemented by the Scholarship Fund.

So how is this fund replenished? You might be surprised to know that much of the money comes from students currently enrolled in the Residential Program. One of the ways that they practice doing mercy is by giving regularly to this account so that their fellow students with financial need can stay enrolled. It is such a sign of a transformed life when a man gives of himself like this.

As we celebrate God’s merciful gift of our Savior this Christmas by giving gifts to one another, would you consider making a gift to the Scholarship Fund? Your gift might make it possible for someone to receive the help they need. Please know that every dollar donated to that fund goes directly to meet the financial need of a student enrolled in one of our programs.

Thank you for all the help you have extended to us in the past. It is our prayer for each of you that the Lord’s blessing will rest upon your life and that 2019 will prove to be the most spiritually enriched and fruitful year you have yet enjoyed.

Love in Christ,

Steve Gallagher
