During John the Baptist’s ministry there were some who wondered if he was Israel’s long-awaited Messiah. But John made it abundantly clear that he had only been sent to prepare the way for the coming savior. So when he spoke to the people, his words were geared at getting their eyes off of him and pointing them to Jesus. And it was in this spirit that he uttered the words, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” How do these words speak to us today?
